The rapid adoption of tablet devices is having a large impact on the way we relax, we communicate and run our businesses. At Oomph, we have a number of programs aimed around helping businesses understand and explore this exciting new opportunity. Our partnership with AIMIA is one of these programs. Oomph Events: Tablet Wars Event Series Presented by AIMIA and Oomph The Tablet Wars event hosted by Oomph and AIMIA was held on the 25thAugust. Positioned to help business navigate through the tablet minefield a sell-out crowd was treated to 6 keynote speakers from PwC, Telsyte, Fitness First, Telstra, Fairfax Digital and Oomph. Some highlights: Foad Fadaghi summarised the Telsyte June 2011 Tablet Study where they estimated there to be over 1.1m tablets in the Australian market and by 2015 a conservative forecast from Megan Browlow in the PwC Outlook Report 2011-2015 put this figure at about 1 in 4 people or 5.5m tablets in the market. Paul Green from Telstra said 80% of iPads are being used in the lounge room currently (but for how long?). Darren Burden from Fairfax reviewed the different models used to drive ROI; sponsorship, in-app advertising and paid app while Analee Matthews from Fitness First announced that they had made enough in advertising revenues from its first edition to cover its 12 month production costs. Keith Ahern, CEO of Oomph predicted that with the rapid advance in tablet technology, there is little doubt they will become critical productivity devices and likely to become an essential part of any business strategy. There are no surprises around who is the dominant player in the market but perhaps what is surprising is the size of that lead – iPad market share of between 70-97% were discussed and that “this is not going to be an Android (tablet) christmas”. The timely departure of Steve Jobs (just before the panel discussion) added to the lively and informed debate during the panel. Tablet wars 2 is being held on13th October and with the upcoming launch of iOS5 and windows 8, it should be another unmissable event. Register now to secure your seat.
