Oomph sponsors Young Minds group

April 5th 2012

Oomph, the iPad platform behind leading titles such as Harper’s Bazaar, Gourmet Traveller, FourFourTwo and Street Press Australia’s Three magazine, is supporting the next generation of magazine publishing professionals as the sponsor of Publishers Australia’s Young Minds initiative.

Oomph will provide commercial support as well as training to the group, which is aimed at under-35s working in the Australian magazine publishing industry. Their support will help Young Minds, who formed last year, to further expand their projects for 2012.

Matthew Green, General Manager of Publishers Australia, welcomed the sponsorship. “The Young Minds committee has generated a thriving community in publishing and stimulated a great deal of intelligent, forward-thinking debate. Now with Oomph’s support, the team can develop events with even greater traction and value for
our members.”

Lisa Walton, Oomph Marketing Director, said: “Young Minds are the future of publishing and we want to be on that journey. We are passionate about helping the publishing industry embrace the opportunity that digital publishing can provide and we think there’s a great synergy by working with this group.”

The sponsorship was announced on Tuesday night at a Young Minds event in Sydney, where around 70 guests gathered for a panel discussion about “Winning in Publishing”. Four winners from last year’s Publishers Australia Excellence Awards offered their insight into how to create successful publishing brands in print, online and on tablets.

The speakers were Focal Attractions’ Tim Burrowes, founder of media and marketing brand Mumbrella, Trevor Treharne from Haymarket Media’s soccer title FourFourTwo, Michael Ryan from Fitness First publisher Active Media Group and Westwick-Farrow Art Director Julie Wright.

A number of winning entries at last year’s Publishers Australia Excellence Awards used the Oomph platform, including Fitness First, which won ‘Best App on Mobile or Tablet Device’ and Haymarket Media’s FourFourTwo, awarded ‘Best Integrated Brand’ for the third consecutive year.

Young Minds will hold a series of events over the course of the year. Like them onFacebook for updates.
